California Appellate Law Group* partner Anna-Rose Mathieson argued and won an intellectual property appeal on behalf of client Apple Inc. in the California Court of Appeal, Sixth District.
Plaintiff Hooked Media Group, a now-defunct startup, had approached Apple and other companies to find a buyer. Hooked sued Apple when negotiations failed, alleging theft of trade secrets, interference with contract, and a litany of other claims. Apple’s trial team won at summary judgment, and Apple hired CALG to argue the appeal.
In an opinion by Justice Grover, the Sixth District ruled for Apple, finding that Hooked Media had not provided evidence of anything “that transformed ordinary free market competition into an actionable legal wrong.”
Hooked Media then sought review from the California Supreme Court. Greg Wolff, one of CALG’s California Supreme Court specialists, took the lead with Anna-Rose in preparing Apple’s successful opposition to the petition.
