California Appellate Law Group* attorneys have scored recent wins in the California Supreme Court and the First, Second, and Sixth District Courts of Appeal.
In Gulf Offshore Logistics v. Superior Court for Ventura County (Norris), Julia Partridge and Greg Wolff represented a class of oil workers seeking to apply California labor laws to their work on ships docked either in California ports or operating at oil refineries located off the California coast. The plaintiffs retained CALG after the Second District ruled in favor of the refineries, and the firm petitioned for California Supreme Court review.
The Supreme Court granted the petition, held the case pending the outcome of a related case it was already considering, and once that decision issued, transferred the matter back to the Second District for reconsideration. The Second District then reversed its prior ruling, now finding in our clients’ favor.
In Kundu v. Palit, CALG’s Robert Roth obtained early dismissal of a high-value family law appeal. He persuaded the Sixth District that the appeal was untimely and could not be considered on the merits, a complete win for the firm’s client.
And Robert Roth also recently won in the First District in Wade v. Superior Court (Wade), where he and CALG appellate writ specialist Susan Horst prevailed on a petition for writ of mandate challenging a trial court’s ruling that a judicial recusal request was untimely. Following the appellate court’s ruling, the trial judge recused himself.
*In July 2022, the California Appellate Law Group was renamed the Complex Appellate Litigation Group.
