The US Supreme Court has granted a petition for certiorari written by CALG bankruptcy law appellate specialist Reno Fernandez. The petition — from an unpublished memorandum disposition of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals — asked the Court to resolve a circuit split over whether an innocent spouse in a bankruptcy proceeding can be held responsible for the other spouse’s fraudulent conduct.
The Court will likely hear arguments in Bartenwerfer v. Buckley, No. 21-908, this fall. Reno, along with CALG’s Anna-Rose Mathieson, who clerked for former Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, have been retained as Supreme Court co-counsel.
